Isa-Kida takes charge as FULafia Vice Chancellor

Prof. Mohammed Isa-Kida on Wednesday assumed office as the fourth Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia).

Isa-Kida, a Professor of Accounting, was appointed following the expiration of the tenure of his predecessor, Prof. Shehu Abdul-Rahaman.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the vice-chancellor said he was deeply humbled by the appointment and dedicated it to God.

He described his emergence as more than a personal milestone, saying it symbolised continuity, transition and renewed hope for thousands of students whose aspirations were nurtured in the institution.

Isa-Kida acknowledged the expectations attached to the office and pledged to operate an open-door policy aimed at expanding access to quality higher education, promoting research and innovation, and contributing meaningfully to national development.

He noted that in just over a decade since its establishment, the university had recorded significant growth in academic programmes, infrastructure, staffing and student population.

“These feats were achieved through the visionary leadership of my predecessor and those before him, as well as the collective efforts of staff and students.

“The university will continue to rely on research to develop solutions to the challenges facing the country and to nurture future leaders intellectually, ethically and socially,” he said.

The vice-chancellor promised to build on existing achievements, address identified gaps and introduce reforms that would strengthen the institution for the benefit of the university community and the nation.

He said that his administration would be inclusive, evidence-based and transparent, with prudent management of resources, while prioritising quality assurance, curriculum relevance, interdisciplinary research and staff development.

Isa-Kida also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, traditional rulers and the host community for their support and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.

In his remarks, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Abdul-Rahaman, thanked God for a successful tenure and appreciated the President, the governor and staff of the university for their support, urging them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.

He expressed confidence that Isa-Kida would surpass his achievements and receive the necessary backing from stakeholders and the university community.

Also speaking, Mrs Lola Fibisola-Akande, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, commended Abdul-Rahaman for stabilising and developing the institution, and wished him success in his future endeavours.

She congratulated Isa-Kida on his appointment and expressed optimism that he would strengthen academic research, ensure quality academic programmes and improve staff welfare for enhanced performance. (NAN)
