June 12 flashback: Photos of Abiola, Tofa during an interview in 1993

As Nigeria marks the 30th anniversary of the June 12 presidential election, a veteran journalist and former Head of NTA’s Politics Desk Chris Ngwu delved into his archive to share some historic photos with Nigerians.

June 12 has since 2018 been proclaimed as Nigeria’s Democracy Day by then President Muhammadu Buhari to honour Moshood Abiola, the winner of the 1993 presidential election.

The pictures below were taken in the studios of NTA News, Victoria Island Lagos, in June 1993, during interviews with the then Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Chief MKO Abiola and his National Republican Convention (NRC) counterpart Alhaji Bashir Tofa (both late).
