Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, in Saturday, commissioned the newly built and equipped 60 classrooms and ICT Centre at Access Bank Fifth Chukker Basic Education School, Mararaban Jos, Kaduna.
The governor also performed the groundbreaking for the construction of additional 50 classrooms at the school.
Speaking at the ceremony which attracted top personalities like Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, the governor thanked the Patron/CEO of Fifth Chukker, Alhaji Adamu Attah and Access Bank for embarking on these noble projects.
“I also appreciated Fifth Chukker and its partners for collaborating with the Kaduna State Government in the implementation of our Safe School Programme.
“Their support which is for building, fencing and equipping of schools has been hugely impactful because thousands of our children have been enrolled in schools across Kaduna State.
“I also appreciated UNICEF Nigeria for its remarkable contributions to the growth and development of education in Kaduna State and Nigeria, especially in the aggressive and sustained campaign for enrolment and retention of out -of- school children.
“I seized the opportunity of the commissioning ceremony to pay glowing tribute to the late Herbert Wigwe who made immeasurable contributions to the education of less privileged children in Kaduna State and Nigeria. His legacy will endure.
“The building of classrooms by Fifth Chukker and Access Bank is a major contribution towards ensuring accessible, safe and conducive learning spaces.
“The construction and equipping of an ICT Center is also a forward looking initiative that will help position our young ones to be relevant in a fast changing and complex world.
“In today’s fast-paced world, the use of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store and manage information is no longer an option, but a necessity. ICT is now integral to teaching and learning. When teachers and students are digitally literate, interaction is enhanced, with good learning outcomes.
“Our administration has prioritized education because it is the best investment against poverty and insecurity. We have built and commissioned 62 secondary schools in the first phase of our administration’s educational revitalization drive within one year.
“We have awarded contracts for 52 additional secondary schools in the second phase of our educational transformation drive. The projects are ongoing. We have also built additional 2,326 classrooms in primary schools across Kaduna State, all within our first year in office.
“We shall continue to partner with Fifth Chukker, Access Bank and UNICEF as we strive to increase access to learning opportunities, improve enrolment and ensure active participation and completion of quality primary and secondary education by children of Kaduna State.
“We call on other corporate organizations to emulate the good examples of Fifth Chukker, Access Bank and UNICEF.”
