Aggrieved teachers under the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have resolved to embark on 2-day peaceful protest over what they described as persistent delay of salary and unlawful deductions from primary teachers’ salary for over a year.

The teachers spoke through a letter of ‘Notification/Permission to embark on 2-day peaceful protest’ sent to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, a copy of which was shared with Dateline Nigeria.

The letter reads: “In compliance with extant laws regulating the conduct of protests and police order as contained in the Public Order Act, (2004) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, we write to draw your attention on the above subject matter.

“This protest has become necessary due to the persistent delay of salary and unlawful deductions of N19,970.35 from primary teachers’ salary for over a year and this deduction is not reflecting in the pay slips.

“This is a violation of Pay Role Legislation and Employment Right Act. Also a contravention of Section 1 (1) (b) of Labour Act.

“Sir, this unlawful and unending deduction, which is a violation of chapter 3 of Civil Service Rules, perpetrated by SUBEB has subjected primary school teachers to untold hardship.

“In view of the several complaints we made to all the stakeholders in order to bring an end to this unlawful deductions and delay of salary, which have not yet yielded a positive result, we decide to embark on a two-day peaceful protest to enforce the constitutional removal of SUBEB chairman under whose knowledge these criminal acts are taking place.

“Also to ask for urgent release of March 2022 salary despite the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) approval of salary payment a long time ago.

“The protest has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th of April, 2022. Consequently, we appeal that you deploy your men to accompany us soas to forestall any attempt of hijacking the exercise by hoodlums. On our part, we shall be civil in our conduct and comply with all existing laws.

“We look forward to your cooperation in this regard.”
