Kano bride accused of killing husband nine days after marriage

The Kano State Police Command has arrested Saudat Jibril, an 18-year-old bride, for allegedly killing her husband Salisu Idris, nine days after their marriage.

In what the police have described as a case of culpable homicide, Saudat was said to have cut off the throat of her 30-year-old husband with a sharp knife on Tuesday.

Spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred in the Farawa area of Mariri, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

He said “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly deployed a team of detectives to the scene.

“The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

“The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section and will be charged to court for offence of culpable homicide.”

Kiyawa said the Kano assured the public of the police commitment to conduct thorough investigations to ensure justice is served, even as he urged them to remain calm.

Dateline reports that the deceased husband and his bride were cousins as their mothers were sisters from the same father.

The mother of the deceased Binta Abdullahi said Saudat and Salisu were not forced on each other. “It was their decision to get married, and we did not suspect anything,” she said.
