Kano governor reunites stolen Bauchi children with their parents

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reunited seven stolen Bauchi children with their parents. The children were rescued by the Kano State Police Command after weeks of intelligence gathering and investigation

The governor, who shed “tears of joy” as he handed over the children to their parents, commended the Kano State Police Command under the leadership of CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Governor of Kano State, said the governor was deeply dismayed by the discovery of the seven children who abducted from Bauchi and then trafficked and sold in Anambra and Lagos states.

He expressed his astonishment at the criminal syndicate specializing in the abduction, trafficking, and sale of children from the Northern states.

The governor urged parents to remain vigilant and attentive to the well-being of their children as a fundamental responsibility.

He also called upon his counterpart, the Bauchi State Governor, to take decisive legal action against the arrested suspects.

The governor, who donated the sum of N500,000 to each of the seven recovered children, recalled the case of 11 Kano children who were abducted and sold in Anambra a few years ago.

The rescued children are:

“Abdulmutallib Sa’ad, aged 5 years, ‘m’, was abducted from Bauchi, his name changed to Ifeanyin Chukwu and sold at ₦480,000:00, but rescued by the police at Mariri Luxurious Park.

“Asiya Muktar, her name changed to Chioma, sold N480,000 aged 4 years, ‘f’, abducted from Bauchi, and rescued at Niger Road, Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano.

“Mahmud Bilyaminu, aged 3 years, ‘m’, abducted from Bauchi, re-named Chioma, sold for N450,000 and rescued at Niger Road, Sabon Gari, Kano.

“Usman Adamu, aged 8 years, ‘m’, abducted from Bauchi, sold at ₦450,000:00, and his name changed to Chibuke also rescued at Yoruba Road, Sabon Gari Kano.

“Hafizu Hassan, aged 8 years, ‘m’, abducted from Bauchi, sold at ₦480,000:00, and his name changed to Uche Chukwu rescued at Niger Road, Sabon Gari Kano.

“Chiamaka Ambrose, aged 7 years, ‘f’, abducted on birthday at Yelwa Bauchi, sold at ₦300,000:00, rescued at Niger Road, Sabon Gari Kano, we are still searching for her parents.

“Mohammed Iliya, aged 5 years, ‘m’, abducted from Bauchi 3 years back, sold at ₦500,000:00, and renamed as “Chidebere” been rescued at Nnewi, Anambra State.”

In response to the issue, Malam Saad from Bauchi, a parent of one of the stolen children, Abdulmutallif Saad, expressed his inability to fully convey his gratitude to the governor and the Commissioner of Police, Kano State.

Nine suspects, apprehended by the Kano State Police Command, were brought alongside the children they had stolen from Bauchi and intercepted at Mariri motor park in Kano while en route to Lagos.

Speaking on behalf of the Bauchi State government, Barrister Sha’awanatu Yusuf, the Director of Public Prosecution at the state Ministry of Justice, emphasized the unity of Kano and Bauchi for the greater good.

She stated that the Bauchi State government would take the necessary legal steps to ensure that the suspects are brought to justice and face the full consequences of the law.
