Kano govt bans Kauyawa Day

The Kano State Censorship Board has officially banned all Kauyawa Day events and suspended the operations of all event centres across the state until further notice.

The Executive Secretary of the Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, made this announcement during a press briefing held on Saturday.

This followed a management meeting of the board, Radio Nigeria, a government-ownee radion station, reported.

He noted that the move is in line with the 2025 amendment to the law establishing the board, which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and subsequently signed into law by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

El-Mustapha emphasised that the law empowers the Censorship Board to regulate and monitor the activities of DJs, event organisers, and event centres throughout Kano State.

As such, the board has resolved that any event organised under the label of Kauyawa Day is now considered a violation of state regulations.

The Executive Secretary urged community leaders and security agencies, including Hisbah, the Kano State Vigilante Group, and other neighbourhood watch organisations, to collaborate with the board to ensure full compliance with the new directive.

“Effective immediately, the organisation of any Villagers Day Event (Kauyawa) is deemed an offence under the law. We call on all stakeholders to support the enforcement of this measure for the betterment of our society.
