The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects for allegedly administering unverified and unauthorized locally made medicine to members of the public in Chalawa, Kano.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD.
According to the statement, operatives of the 52 Police Mobile Force, PMF, Chalawa, intercepted the suspects on August 4, 2026 at about 9:00am at ECWA Church, located behind the No. 52 PMF Base, Chalawa.
The suspects, led by Simon Gbaaondo, 50, of Karu, Nasarawa State, were said to be attached to the “Brother Paul Legacy Foundation.”
The Command said they were administering the locally made medicine as both free samples and for sale to a large crowd of people from Panshekara communities who had trooped to the church, without clearance from relevant health regulatory agencies.
“The unauthorized activity had earlier attracted public outcry and complaints from concerned members of the community,” the statement noted.
The person who hosted the suspects on the church premises has also been invited to assist with investigation.
The case was initially reported at Panshekara Police Division and has since been transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Kano, where the suspects are currently undergoing investigation.
CP Bakori warned individuals and organizations against administering drugs, locally made medicine, or conducting medical outreaches without due authorization and verification from the State Government, NAFDAC, and other relevant health authorities.
He said such acts pose “serious health and security risks to the public, especially when large crowds are involved.”
“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety, security and well-being of all residents and will not condone any activity capable of endangering public health or public order,” the CP stated.
The Police urged members of the public to report any suspicious medical outreach or distribution of unverified medicine to the nearest police station.
The Command said further developments on the case will be communicated to the public in due course.
