Kano police foil ‘yan daba clash in Gyadi-Gyadi, arrest six suspects

The Kano State Police Command has averted a major breakdown of law and order in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters after swiftly intervening in a violent clash between rival ‘Yan Daba thug groups on Sunday afternoon.

According to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, officers received a distress call at about 1:20 p.m. reporting that suspected thugs had mobilized for a confrontation in the area.

On arrival, patrol teams met the groups engaged in a violent clash. The hoodlums vandalized an ambulance and attempted to attack other locations before turning on the police, pelting officers with stones and dangerous weapons. The attack was repelled professionally, forcing the suspects to flee toward Farm Centre Market, where they tried to break into shops and loot property.

Reinforcement teams were immediately deployed, dispersing the thugs and arresting six suspects at the scene. Calm has since been restored to the affected areas.

Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the officers of Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their “gallantry, restraint, and professionalism” in preventing further violence and protecting property. He warned that the Command would not tolerate thuggery or any act capable of disturbing public peace in Kano State.

“Parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards, as anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” CP Bakori stated.

The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and identify those who may have sponsored the clash. The Command also thanked residents for providing timely information and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities through its emergency lines.

The operation aligns with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s directive on visibility policing and proactive response to public disturbances.
