The Hisbah Commission in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State has rescued a 29-year-old lady, Rabi’ah Salisu, seven years after one Joe Abdulmumin, 37, eloped with her.
According to the Hisbah, Joe hid Rabi’ah in his father’s house in Unguwar Dogarawa, in Sabon Gari LGA. She gave birth to three children (two girls and one boy) for him.
Rabi’ah was rescued on Thursday at about 1:30pm, the Hisbah commander in Sabon Gari Abubakar Auwal Adam confirmed to Dateline Nigeria over the phone on Saturday, adding that she was 22 years old when she was taken away.
He said Joe’s visually-impaired father told the Hisbah officials that he did all he could to get his son to return the young girl to her parents but he refused.
Joe’s father said he hails from Madobi, Kano State, and that he is a Christian.
Rabi’ah’s elder brother Malam Abdullahi Salisu said they had been looking for their sister for seven years since she left their house at Unguwar Jaba. “We resorted to prayers when we could not find her,” he said.
Meanwhile, Joe has been handed over to the police for further investigation and arraignment in court.
