Marcelo is a last-minute casualty for Real Madrid ahead of Saturday night’s match away at Real Betis after suffering some back discomfort.
The Real Madrid squad travel to Seville on Saturday morning and Zinedine Zidane has decided not to call up a new player to replace the Brazilian.
As such, Ferland Mendy will start at left-back against Betis, as he did in the 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad last weekend, and it’s expected that he will also be in the starting XI when Real Madrid host Real Valladolid on Wednesday.
This is not the way that Marcelo will have wanted to start the new campaign.
