Matawalle suspends ZAROTA, says joint task force to oversee activities

Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has directed the suspension of all Zamfara Road Traffic Agency (ZAROTA) activities in the state.

This followed the increasing complaints by the members of the public regarding the conduct of their officials and personnel.

The suspension was contained in a public announcement by Alh Yakubu Sani Haidara, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs.

The announcement said ”In the meantime, the activities of the organisation will be overseen by a joint task force of Police, VIO, Federal Road Safety Commission and Civil Defence Corps.

”His Excellency has further directed for setting up of a committee to review the conduct of the officials of the organisation.

“In view of this, people are advised to be law-abiding and conduct themselves according to the law”.

Dateline Nigeria reports that truck drivers had blocked a major roundabout in Gusau over alleged extortion and harassment by personnel of ZAROTA.

The Head of the agency also recently threated to cut off the manhood of Facebook user for allegedly criticising the governor.
