Miami Heat part ways with Nigerian power forward Precious Achiuwa

The Miami Heat have decided to part ways with Nigerian basketball power forward Precious Achiuwa and three other training camp players.

Ethan Thompson, Dain Dainja, and Bez Mbeng — The Florida team part ways before their contracts became guaranteed on opening night, according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.

Achiuwa, 26, had joined the Heat on a non-guaranteed one-year deal last month, hoping to earn a roster spot for the 2025–26 season.

However, with his contract set to become guaranteed at the start of the regular season, Miami opted to release him and the rest of the training camp group instead.

All four players were signed to non-guaranteed contracts, which means the Heat won’t owe them any salary after the cuts.

Originally selected 20th overall by Miami in the 2020 NBA Draft, Achiuwa has played five seasons in the league, splitting time between the Heat, Toronto Raptors, and New York Knicks. Across 320 regular-season appearances, he has averaged 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game.

Last season with the Knicks, he appeared in 66 games (10 starts), contributing 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

While this move ends his second stint with Miami before it truly began, Achiuwa could still draw interest from other teams in need of athletic frontcourt depth as the season gets underway.
