Senator Mohammed Monguno (APC, Borno North) has replaced Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) as the Majority Whip of the Senate.
Monguno, a lawyer, was the Chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives, when he represented Marte/Monguno/Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State. He had been in the National Assembly since 2007.
The decision to replace Ndume was conveyed through a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, signed by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru.
The letter, titled “Complaints Against the Unbecoming Utterances of Sen. Ali Ndume,” was read by Akpabio during the plenary session.
It expressed the displeasure of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC regarding Ndume’s criticism of the government and the party.
The party’s leadership stated that Ndume’s actions were not in line with the responsible and decorous behaviour expected from a senior member of the Senate.
They emphasised that his uncouth and baseless criticisms not only tarnish the government’s image but also undermine the unity and cohesion of the APC.
