NANS retracts allegation, apologises to PENCOM

The National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS), has tendered a letter of apology to the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) over the allegation of corruption it made against the commission.

In a letter dated October 3, 2022, the association stated that due to a proper and deeper investigation, it has come across superior evidence and argument to change its stance on the matter.

The letter reads: “In our quest to get to the bottom of the true happenings in PENCOM, we have come across information that is now at our disposal on the truth of the matter.

“In pursuant of this noble objective of ours, we wish to withdraw the letter earlier submitted and inform you of the official stand down of all proposed action their in”.

The association also acknowledged a recent development in the commission which gives pension contributors access to 25 percent of their savings for mortgage.

“We are glad coming across the recent development in PENCOM under your watch that will allow for pension contributors to use 25 percent of their savings to access mortgage and own houses, this will not only improve the welfare of our nation’s workers but will also go a long way in boosting economic activities across the value chain of the Nigerian Real Estate sector,” it said.

Furthermore, NANS pledged its support to the commission noting that a press conference will be held to retract their former submission.

“We wish to state that NANS is ready to align with the vision of the Director General in repositioning the commission and improving the lives of our nation’s pensioners who deserve it so well for their sacrifices to the nation.

“In follow up to this, we will be holding a press conference to retract our earlier position,” it said.

It will be recalled that on the 28th of September 2022, it was alleged that the least paid PENCOM employee was earning a salary of N3m per month. This allegation was immediately dismissed by the commission.
