NAOWA president commissions skills acquisition centre in Jos

The President Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Mrs Salamatu F Yahaya commissioned the newly built 3 Division NAOWA Skills Acquisition Centre at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Yahaya noted with delight that the Centre would help enhance the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel by equipping women and youths in the barracks with skills to be self-reliant.

She appreciated the GOC 3 Division, Maj General Ibrahim Ali for his support to the Chairperson to realise the project. She encouraged members to cherish the Centre and ensure it is adequately maintained.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairperson, NAOWA 3 Division Chapter Mrs Hauwa Ali said that the Centre was conceived to assist families of soldiers, particularly wives and widows of soldiers and youths to acquire skills aimed at empowering them to become self-employed.

The Centre, named Salamatu F Yahaya Skills Acquisition Centre, comprise of the departments of computer studies, hair dressing, tailoring, catering, shoe and bag making as well as knitting among others, the Chairperson stated.

According to her, the Centre also has a mini wellness centre which has body and wellness facility designed to meet the physical, mental, emotional and psychological needs of the family.

The President NAOWA also performed the ground breaking for the 3 Division NAOWA Secretariat.

During the ceremony, the Hon Commissioner for Women Affairs and Youth Development, Plateau State Hon Rebecca Sambo delivered the goodwill message of Her Excellency the Wife of the Plateau State Governor, Mrs Regina Simon Bako Lalong.
