NAPS hails NDLEA Kaduna for sustained fight against drug abuse

The Kaduna State Liaison Council of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has commended the Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its sustained efforts in combating drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the State.

The commendation was made on Thursday, 20 August 2026, when a delegation of NAPS Kaduna State Liaison Council, led by its Chairman, Comr. Hussaini Saidu Bamalli, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commander, NDLEA Kaduna State Command, CN Maijama’a Muhammad.

The visit focused on the growing challenge of drug abuse among students and the need for stronger collaboration between NAPS and the NDLEA in preventing substance abuse and providing appropriate support for students affected by drug abuse.

The delegation highlighted the importance of involving the NDLEA in addressing cases involving students affected by drug abuse, while exploring possible interventions, including the establishment of a task force to support the identification, referral and management of affected students.

During the visit, the NAPS delegation presented a Letter of Commendation to the State Commander in recognition of the Command’s commitment to combating drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, safeguarding young people and promoting a safer and healthier society.

Responding, the State Commander, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, appreciated the delegation for the visit and the commendation. He noted that drug abuse remains a major challenge with serious social and economic consequences, stressing that the NDLEA cannot tackle the problem alone.

He therefore called for stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders, particularly student bodies and educational institutions, noting that working together would achieve greater results in the fight against drug abuse.

The State Commander further described polytechnics as a breeding ground for nurturing the leaders of tomorrow and assured the delegation that the Command’s doors would remain open for meaningful engagement, partnership and collaboration aimed at protecting young people from the dangers of drug abuse.

The engagement also featured a question-and-answer session, during which the delegation and the Command discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly prevention, early intervention and support for students affected by substance abuse.

The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing commitment to strengthening their partnership and supporting initiatives that will contribute to a safer, healthier and drug-free environment for students and young people across Kaduna State.
