NAPTIP hosts survivors co-mentoring series to mark its 20th anniversary

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has hosted a special 2-day edition of the Survivors Co-Mentoring series ass part of the activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary and the 2023 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

The edition is the 6th in the series with the theme “From Pain to Pottery: Empowering Survivors Through Artful Stories”. The series was supported by UNODC, Attorney General Alliance for Africa and Auxano Foundation.

Declaring the event open, the Director General Fatima Waziri–Azi encouraged all survivors present to continue to be strong irrespective of their ordeals.

She reminded them that they were not victims but survivors and they should always remember that they were not alone in their journey of recovery. The DG urged the survivors to speak their truth and know that the Agency will always stand beside

The representative of the UNODC Country Rep, Abimbola Adewumi, in her speech, thanked all participants for being present. She encouraged the survivors to remain strong and know that the UNODC will continue to do its best to protect all survivors of human trafficking and violence against persons.

There was a survivor-led panel session with the theme “Voices of Resilience: From Surviving to Thriving. There were also survivor’s exhibit which included pottery presentation, poetry, dance and storytelling.

The series had in attendance 110 survivors and 90 participants.
