The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have agreed to join forces to fight human trafficking in the country.
This was the high point of the courtesy visit by the transport owners association led by its National President, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal Othman, to the Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, at the Agency’s Headquarters, Abuja.
NARTO is the umbrella body for all commercial vehicle owners involved in the transportation of general cargo, petroleum products, and passengers across Nigeria.
The NARTO President said, “Credible intelligence and ongoing field observation have revealed an alarming convergence between human trafficking and other vices within our transport corridors. It is for this reason that I reaffirm NARTO’s unwavering commitment to being an active part of the solution.
“We are here to propose a strategic and results–driven partnership with NAPTIP in the areas of information sharing, Joint intelligence initiatives, coordinated operations, and public awareness.”
In her response, the Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, described the new partnership with NARTO as critical, timely, and assured them that the Agency would do everything possible to ensure a rewarding working relationship.
