NCAOOSCE distributes rice to Almajiri schools in Yobe, beneficiaries applaud intervention

The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) has distributed bags of rice to Alarammas and Tsangaya schools across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State.

This is part of efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable learners and their instructors.

The intervention, facilitated by the Federal Government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, is aimed at strengthening Almajiri education and expanding social protection for underserved communities.

The distribution was carried out under the leadership of the Commission’s Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Sani Idris, with coordination at the state level by Yobe Team Lead, Nazifi Alhaji Sani.

A joint committee oversaw the exercise to ensure transparency, accountability and equitable allocation of the items.

Across the state, the exercise was described as orderly and impactful, reaching hundreds of Tsangaya schools and Alarammas who play a critical role in mentoring and guiding Almajiri children.

Speaking on the initiative, Idris said the programme reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Alarammas and enhancing the learning environment in Tsangaya schools.

“This intervention is designed to support the well-being of both teachers and pupils. By easing some of their welfare challenges, we are also strengthening the foundation for learning and moral upbringing,” he said, adding that the Commission remains focused on delivering programmes with direct and lasting impact.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Beneficiaries across the state lauded the initiative, describing it as timely given the prevailing economic situation.

One of the recipients, Goni Bukar Muhammad, said the support would significantly ease the burden of feeding children under his care.

“This support has come at the right time. It will go a long way in feeding the children. We pray for peace and continued progress in Nigeria, and for those who made this possible,” he said.

Similarly, a Tsangaya school representative, Mallam Lawan Adamu, described the intervention as a morale booster.

“This gesture has encouraged us greatly. It shows that the government recognises our efforts and is willing to support us. It will improve both teaching and learning conditions in our schools,” he added.

Boost to Welfare and Inclusive Education

Observers say the intervention has promotes NCAOOSCE’s commitment to improving the welfare of Almajiri children and their instructors, while strengthening collaboration among federal, state and community stakeholders.

They note that such targeted support not only addresses immediate welfare needs but also contributes to sustaining educational development within the Almajiri system.

With the successful rollout of the programme, the Commission has reaffirmed its resolve to continue implementing impactful initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable groups and promoting inclusive education across the country.
