NSCDC foils attempted crude oil theft through vandalized pipeline

The CG’s Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, recorded another landmark success in the fight against oil bunkering in line with the statutory mandate given to the Corps and the Federal Government’s stance on zero tolerance for corrupt acts and oil theft.

On Tuesday 22nd April , 2025 approximately 0300hrs to 1000hrs, the CG SIS , acting on credible intelligence information that some suspected vandals had illicitly tampered with a section of the installed crude oil pipelines of the NNPC that passed through the Umuololo/Etitiuzor axis of Owaza in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State..
The SIS Squad promptly arrived at the location and discovered the heavy spillage of crude oil from the vandalized potion of the pipeline, where the vandals had connected a valve , into the surrounding surface. The location was later condoned off and contacted the technical/ maintenance team and environmental safety team of the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited( PINL) who responded swiftly to fix the damaged pipeline and cleaned up the spillage. .

This timely response of the NSCDC personnel prevented disaster associated with illegal handling of these inflammable products and a further testament to the NSCDC’S unwavering commitment under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni OFR PhD towards safeguarding government’s critical national assets and infrastructure as well as effective safety of lives and property of the individuals.

No arrest has been made so far but the SIS Squad has deployed an intelligence component with a view of unraveling the unscrupulous elements perpetrating this act of economic sabotage.
