
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the accreditation of 17 courses at the Bauchi State owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU).
A press release on Sunday by Auwal Hassan, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, said the development is a significant milestone for the institution.
The accredited courses, spanning various faculties and departments, include Accounting (full), Business Administration (full), Public Administration (full), Agriculture (full), Arabic (full), Human Physiology (full), Public Health (interim), Anatomy (full), Law (full), Pharm D (interim), Botany (full), Chemistry (full), Mathematics (full), Microbiology (full), Physics (full), Science Laboratory Technology (full), and Zoology (full).
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, expressed confidence that the accreditation wass a step forward in achieving the university’s mission and vision of academic excellence.
Tahir appreciated Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for his unwavering commitment and support to the university.
It will be recalled that on November 22, 2024, a high-powered panel from NUC visited SAZU, as part of the accreditation exercise for October/November 2024.
However, in a letter dated April 30, 2025, signed by the Executive Secretary of NUC and addressed to the Visitor of the University, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Executive Governor Bauchi state, explained that the accreditation was in line with Section 10 (1) of the Education Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which empowers the NUC to lay down minimum Academic Standard for all academic programmes taught in Nigerian Universities and also to accredit such programmes.
This accreditation is seen as a major breakthrough for SAZU, enabling it to compete with its counterparts in the country.
The university remains committed to providing quality education and producing graduates who can make a positive impact in society, the statement concluded.
In a related development, The Sa’adu Zungur University, (SAZU) Bauchi State has trained 46 academic staff from various faculties and departments as part of effort to encourage them to be conducting impactful research that would address the needs of Nigerian communities.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Fatimah Tahir, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor DVC Academics Professor Bala Abdulhamid Ma’aji, gave the assurance at the opening of a 3-day training on Research for impact (R41) and Grant writing for academic staff.
The training, organized by the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation (CERI), aimed at equipping staff with the necessary skills to design and implement impactful research projects that can secure funding and drive positive change in the community.
Professor Fatimah said that the university recognizes the potential of research to address the numerous challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in the Northeast. Pointing out that SAZU is committed to conducting research that is relevant, impactful, and beneficial to the communities
The Director of CERI, Dr. Usman Waziri, said that the training is part of the university’s efforts to promote a culture of research excellence and innovation that would enable participants to develop competitive research proposals and secure funding for their projects.
