The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has decried the abduction of 20 medical students in Benue State as well as Anambra State Commissioner Youth Development and his wife in Edo State.
Obi, while reacting to the two incidents in statement via his X handle on Saturday, said the current level of insecurity in the country is unacceptable.
Dateline Nigeria reports that 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were reportedly abducted in the Otukpo area of Benue State on Thursday, 15th August by gunmen
The students were said to be travelling to Enugu for an annual convention organised by the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) when they were abducted by the hoodlums.
Also, a serving commissioner for Youth Development in the Anambra State government, Patrick Agha Mba, was reportedly abducted alongside his wife in Edo State while on their way to Abuja.
Obi called for decisive action to tackle the challenges, stressing that the citizens can’t continue to live in fear, poverty and darkness.
“We cannot continue living in fear, poverty, and darkness. It’s time for bold action, collective resolve, and a united front against these challenges.
“We must declare war on this massive insecurity and other ills that threaten or society and work tirelessly to build a safer, more prosperous, and just society for all,” the former Anambra State Governor said.
