The 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Institutions (ACMOI) is taking place at the OIC Headquarters from 4th to 5th December 2024.
It serves as a significant platform of the OIC institutions for the joint implementation of the OIC Summit decisions and the resolutions of the CFM and other ministerial-level meetings.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs of the OIC H.E. Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, on behalf of His Excellency the Secretary-General, welcomed all heads of OIC institutions and their accompanying delegations at the opening of the 8th ACMOI, held on 4th December 2024.
He stated that since the last 7th Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI), held at the OIC Headquarters in January 2024, the majority of the agreed activities were successfully implemented.
Dr. Sengendo emphasized that the achievement was based on the analysis of the various submissions and reports submitted by OIC institutions to the OIC General Secretariat.
During the meeting, Dr Sengendo noted that the year 2024 has been a year of landmark events for the OIC, prominent among which were the 15th Islamic Summit Conference, the 50th Session of Council of Foreign Ministers, the Golden Jubilee of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the 40th Anniversary Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the OIC (COMCEC), among others.
He added that these events adopted various decisions aimed at guiding the OIC actions and encouraging the participants to promote international peace, security, and sustainable development in the OIC Member States.
The Assistant Secretary-General also pointed to many challenges facing the work of the OIC and its Institutions, noting the ongoing Israeli aggression and genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the forced displacement of more than 2 million Palestinians and mass destruction of civilian infrastructure.
He also mentioned many challenges to sustainable development in the OIC Member States, which require a scaling up of the OIC joint work in confronting them.
Accordingly, Dr Sengendo emphasized that the implementation of OIC resolutions and the delivery of qualitative solutions for the socio-economic development of the OIC Member States will always require institutional clarity on the roles and responsibilities of executive agencies.
At the end, the 8th ACMOI will adopt a Matrix of Agreed Actions to be implemented by the OIC institutions during 2025.
