One World Media announces new appointments

One World Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Horrocks OBE as its new Chair.

Peter, who has served in an interim capacity for the past 12 months, brings extensive experience in media and economic development.

He has played an instrumental role in shaping the organisation’s direction and will now lead its next steps towards strengthening ties with journalists, filmmakers, and media organisations globally.

Vivienne Francis, OWM Director, says: “At this critical time for global journalism, it is vital that we prioritise those who are delivering impactful stories that reshape narratives and challenge misrepresentation.

“By connecting their stories to audiences and platforms, we can help build empathy and understanding. Peter’s experience in leading transformational strategies and deep knowledge of the industry are exactly what we need to take One World Media to the next stage, and I’m delighted to have his continued partnership and support.”

Peter Horrocks’ career highlights include leadership roles at the BBC, where he served as Editor of Panorama and Newsnight, as well as Director of the BBC World Service. He currently chairs Learna Limited and serves on the Content Board of Ofcom.

Alongside Peter, Kadaria Ahmed and Catherine McCarthy will join the Board as Trustees. In 2026, Kadaria and Catherine will take on the roles of Co-Chairs. These three leadership appointments represent a wealth of expertise and networks across broadcast, editorial, business, and funding for independent journalism.

Kadaria Ahmed, a distinguished Nigerian journalist and media entrepreneur, is recognised for her work in accountability journalism. She serves on the Nigerian Board of Trustees of the International Press Institute and has received grants from organisations such as the Ford Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation.

Catherine McCarthy brings over 25 years of leadership experience in public service broadcasting and digital health. Having held senior roles at the BBC, she now leads a non-profit organisation focused on digital health initiatives for underserved communities worldwide.

Peter says: “I’m delighted to be taking on this role. Storytellers and journalists around the world face unprecedented challenges, but with the experience, networks, and deep passion of organisations like One World Media, we can together respond to this moment. I look forward to working with Vivienne and our new trustees to ensure that we deliver.”
