The North-East Zonal Working Committee ZWC and six state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have aligned themselves with the position of the party’s governors, the Board of Trustees, National Assembly Caucus and all the major stakeholders in the zone as part of effort to resolve the party’s leadership crisis.
The Zonal Chairman, of the party Reverend Emmanuel Bovoa, said this in a communique at the end an emeeting of the ZWC and state chairmen in the zone held on Wednesday at the Zonal Secretariat in Bauchi.
He said “as regards to the National chairmanship tussle, the meeting agreed that status quo shall be maintained. Umar iliya Damagum is a recognized acting National Chairman, while Mohammed Ahmed Yayari reverted back to his position as treasurer”.
Represented by the Zonal Secretary, Kabiru Bappah Jauro, the Zonal Chairman said the unity and peace of the party cannot be overstated, especially at such a crucial time.
“We believe the position taken by the leaders of the party shall bring decorum and sanity that will lead the party to lofty height,” he said.
He said that the zonal working committee meeting of the Zonal working committee and Chairmen was necessitated by the current happening at the National Level of the Party.
He said the working committee will continue to seek avenues for mutual understanding among its members across the states in the zone.
Jauro said “The meeting acknowledged and appreciated the unparalleled infrastructural development by the PDP governors in their respective States and urged them not to relent on the solid foundation they had laid”.
He said That the meeting reflected on the Sixteen (16) years of the peoples Democratic Party at the helms of affairs as a ruling party and how it lost out to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015. The PDP years were indeed a blessing to the Nation. ”
It was observed that the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration has brought untold hardship to the generality of Nigerians and no proactive measures are being taken to remedy the situation”. “
The meeting agreed that it is only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that can provide the needed solution to the current challenges facing the nation. Thus making it the last hope of Nigerians as the messiah for salvation.” Jauro said
Since the inception of democratic rule in 1999, the Peoples” Democratic Party (PDP) had been dominant in the North East sub region, producing a former Vice President, former/Serving governors, former/serving National Chairmen, former/serving National Assembly and State Assembly Members.
The Party has tremendously contributed to the socio economic development of the Zone, and Nigeria at large.
He said “The meeting was satisfied with the tremendous support and encouragement received from the PDP governors for the Zonal Office and all the state chapters of the party.
“The meeting pass vote of confidence on our three (3) governors in the zone namely, Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba for performing very well and urge them to continue providing the dividends of democracy to the people of the zone and Nigeria at large”
“The meeting also resolved to specially appreciate the host. Governor of Bauchi State,His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, who also doubles as the Chairman, PDP Governor’s forum for facilitating and providing conducive atmosphere for the meeting”
Earlier in his welcome address zonal Chairman Emmanuel, he said, “I welcome you all to this Executive Council meeting of the zone. We are here to deliberate on issues concerning our party, and at the end, we will inform you, journalists, of the outcome of the meeting.”
He added, “Very soon, we are going to have our Zonal Congress, which is part of the reason we are here — to discuss how to organize the exercise.” Emmanuel Bovoa stressed,
“We have the best and most well-equipped Zonal Secretariat of the PDP in the whole of Nigeria, thanks to the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.”
He further stated, “Today, we are proud of where we are. We are grateful and will always be grateful to him, even after we leave this place. We know that he set it up to the highest standards, and if you look at it, he is giving the PDP a facelift. We are not ashamed to tell anyone; I have gone around saying it.”
He said, “Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, tried to copy it, but he couldn’t surpass it. The first person to do it was Sen Bala Mohammed. I know ours remains the best, and we are grateful to him.”
The meeting was well attended and deliberated extensively on moving the party forward.
