Yobe state Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON COMN, said government would work in synergy with trade unions and other stakeholders to deliberate on the contributory Pension Scheme, for state and local government employees.
He stated this today when the management of the National Pension Commission paid him a courtesy visit.
Governor Buni said the dialogue is to provide the government, labour unions and Civil servants a platform to be on the same page for a better understanding of the scheme.
“One important thing is to create a better understanding, acceptance and workability of the scheme.
“There should also be a law to serve as a legal instrument to institutionalize the scheme and ensure consistency” he said.
The Director General, PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, said the visit was to canvas for instituting the pension scheme in the state.
She appealed for the establishment of the contributory pension scheme law and the setting up of a Pension Bureau.
Oloworaran said the scheme would guarantee a future for civil servants after retirement.
She commended Gov. Buni for taking pragmatic measures in governance, programmes, policies and infrastructural developments to improve the lives of the people.
