Peter Obi visits Bauchi Islamic school, donates ₦5m to student scholarships

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has donated an additional ₦5 million to Madarasatu Intisharu Islam Qismu in Bauchi to support scholarships for indigent students.

Obi made the donation on Thursday, April 23, during a visit to the school, shortly after meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. The school is one he had previously supported with ₦5 million for the purchase of chairs and other learning materials.

Speaking after seeing improvements at the facility and the enthusiasm of the pupils, Obi said he was encouraged to extend further support.

“On visiting yesterday, and seeing improvements that have been achieved and how enthusiastic the children are, I was glad and gave them another sum of ₦5 million to support the scholarship of indigent students,” he said.

He stressed the importance of investing in children’s education for the country’s future.

“We must invest in the lives of these children for our own future and for the progress of the country. A new Nigeria is possible,” Obi added.

The visit comes a day after Obi held closed-door talks with Governor Bala in Bauchi, where he called for national unity and cross-regional collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.

Madarasatu Intisharu Islam Qismu is one of several schools Obi has supported in recent years as part of his advocacy for education and human capital development.
