Governor Uba Sani on Wednesday received in audience an illustrious daughter of Kaduna State, the Lord Mayor of Leeds City, United Kingdom, Mrs. Abigail Marshall Katung and her husband, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Mrs Katung was in May officially announced as the Lord Mayor of Leeds following the council’s annual general meeting. She took over from Al Garthwaite.
The discussions with Governor Uba Sani centered around women inclusion in politics and governance, as well as empowerment programmes that will improve the socioeconomic conditions of women in Kaduna State.
Governor Uba Sani used the opportunity to once again congratulate Mrs. Katung on her election and inauguration as the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds and the first person of African descent to hold such a position.
He says Kaduna State is very proud of her and his administration will continue to support her as part of his commitment towards deepening women’s participation in governance and other critical sectors.
