The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly impregnating a 19-year-old lady and engaging the services of a quack doctor who performed an abortion on the young woman, leading to her death
Spokesman of the command SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said a report was received from one Nura Balarabe of Tofa LGA Kano on December 12, 2023, accusing one Ukasha Muhammed, 19, of Langel Village Tofa LGA Kano of impregnating his sister, Amina Bala, 19, of Kwanar Mahuwa Tofa LGA Kano.
“The said Ukasha Muhammad conspired with one Chidera Ugwu, aged 24 years, ‘m’ of Lanbum Banki Tofa LGA Kano and administered injections and drugs to the said Amina Balarabe with intent to cause miscarriage which resulted to her death.
“The suspects were arrested and confessed to the crime. Investigations revealed that the said Chidera Ugwu has allegedly been administering fatal injections to pregnant women, leading to tragic consequences.
“The arrest of the Quack Doctor signifies a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the lives and well-being of all the residents in the State.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, assured the people that the police will work diligently to compile solid evidence to ensure the successful prosecution of the arrested individuals.
“Our objective is not only to bring the perpetrators to justice but also to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate such criminal actions,” he added.
