The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious thug, Yusuf Haruna AKA Lagwatsani, 18, for allegedly stabbing a renown Imam, Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, to death
Spokesman of the command SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, added that the thug attacked the imam for telling them to stop smoking Indian hemp around his mosque.
Kiyawa said, “On 31/12/2023 at about 1930hrs, report was received from one Musa Yunusa,’m’ of Jakara Quarters Kano that on the same date at about 1900hrs, the said Yusuf Haruna attacked and stabbed one Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, aged 45 years, ‘m’ of same address with a sharp knife at his back while performing ablution, simply because the victim warned him and his gang to stop smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.
“As a result, the victim sustained deep injury and was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and was confirmed dead by the Doctor. The incident shook the community, and our officers have worked tirelessly to identify and capture the assailant.
“This arrest is a testament to our unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of life and bringing justice to those affected by such heinous acts.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, assured the people that the police will work diligently to compile solid evidence to ensure the successful prosecution of the arrested suspect.
“Our objective is not only to bring the perpetrators to justice but also to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate such criminal actions,” he added.
