The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed as false a social media alert claiming that a military helicopter dropped “unknown items” in a bush at the boundary between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area.
In a statement dated June 25, 2026 and signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said it immediately deployed operatives to verify the report after it began circulating online.
“Location remains calm”
Following an on-the-spot assessment, police said findings showed “the alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or any security concerns observed.”
“Normal activities continue within and around the area, while security operatives maintain routine surveillance to ensure public safety and sustain public confidence,” the statement added.
CP warns against spreading unverified info
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, urged residents to disregard the alarm and avoid sharing unverified information “capable of causing panic and undermining public confidence in the security architecture of the State.”
The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace across Anambra.
Residents were encouraged to verify security-related reports through official channels and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation.
The clarification comes amid heightened sensitivity to security rumors in the South-East, where unverified alerts often trigger panic and disrupt daily life.
