Police intervene as patient’s relatives attack medical doctor in Kano

The Kano State Police Command is dismayed by the regrettable incident that occurred at Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, which resulted in the attack on a medical doctor by aggrieved relatives of a patient in the hospital.

On 28/01/2024 at about 2015hrs, a report was received that one Shehu Usman Abdulwahab, ‘m’, a medical Doctor at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano was assaulted by aggrieved relatives of a female patient who died in the process of delivery at the maternity section. On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen were immediately detailed to the scene.

In furtherance, on 29th January 2024, the Commissioner of Police visited the Hospital, met with the hospital’s management and assessed the security situation of the facility where he assured them that the Kano Police Command is taking this matter very seriously and investigation has already commenced.

The CP also ordered the deployment of more personnel to ensure security in the Hospital. Reiteratively, the Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals, including healthcare workers, within the state.

Additionally, the Kano Police Command will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation against healthcare workers who are tirelessly dedicated to saving lives and caring for patients.

Lastly, We urge everyone to respect the sanctity of medical facilities and to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means. Any grievances should be addressed through the appropriate channels and in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police while appreciating the confidence and friendship gesture extended by the good people of the State to the Police Command, also thanked everyone for the prayers, understanding, continuous support, encouragement and cooperation.
