Policy Innovation Centre commends NIMC for driving digital identity in Nigeria

The Director General of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, and the management team receive in audience the management of the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) on a working visit to the Commission’s Headquarters, Abuja.

The visit was to collaborate with NIMC on the Digital Access Project to support digital identity at the National and State levels. This would improve financial inclusion and provide an enabling environment for digital access in rural communities in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS).

Engr Aziz stated that there is no planning without adequate data. He said that there are over 96 Million records in the National Identity Database (NIDB). NIMC is currently partnering with the World Bank-led consortium and other strategic partners to drive an all-inclusive digital identity.

Osasuyi Dirisu, who led the PIC, commended the NIMC for its strategic role in driving the digital identity in Nigeria. He stated that the project is driven and supported by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami).

The pilot states for the initiative include Kaduna, kano, Jigawa, Lagos, and Edo.
