The Director and Chairman Organizing Committee of the Premier Horse Racing championship, Alhaji Mansir Ahmed Aliyu, also known as Sarkin Arewan Daura, has expressed his delight at the success of the International Horse Racing Tournament held in Daura to mark Governor Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON first year in office.
Speaking after the event, Aliyu praised the Governor’s commitment to the sport and cultural heritage. “We are deeply grateful to His Excellency, Governor Radda, for enhancing this year’s edition,” Aliyu said. “His promise to give this initiative an international color is well appreciated and will undoubtedly elevate the status of horse racing in our state.”
The tournament, which featured five prestigious races, saw fierce competition among top horses from the region. Salim Sani Buhari’s horses dominated the event, with “Amir” winning the General Muhammadu Buhari Cup and “Hassada” clinching the Governor Dikko Radda Cup, each securing over 2 million naira in prize money.
Aliyu also extended his gratitude to other dignitaries who graced the occasion. “We are honoured by the presence of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, who has always been a strong supporter of our cultural traditions,” he stated. The Director also acknowledged the attendance of the Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahya Daura, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Jabiru Tsauri.
The event was further elevated by the presence of distinguished guests from neighbouring Niger Republic, underscoring its international appeal. “Their participation adds a special dimension to our tournament and strengthens our cross-border ties,” Aliyu remarked.
Governor Radda’s announcement of a 3.5 million naira donation to be distributed among participants, judges, and spectators was met with enthusiasm. Aliyu commented, “This generous gesture from the Governor demonstrates his commitment to not just the sport, but to all those who make it possible.”
Looking to the future, Aliyu expressed optimism about the growth of horse racing in Katsina State. “With the continued support of our government and the enthusiasm of our community, we are confident that horse racing will play an even greater role in celebrating our heritage and fostering social cohesion,” he concluded.
