Prof Darma appointed ECOWAS commissioner

Former director, Entrepreneurship and Development Centre, University of Abuja, Professor Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, has been appointed Commissioner, Internal Services of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Darma, a professor of economics, emerged the best candidate, following his outstanding performance at an interview conducted for over 300 candidates in Accra, Ghana.

The newly-appointed commissioner is to administer the affairs of the Internal Service of ECOWAS whose portfolio of departments include Finance and Treasury, Human Resources and Staff Development,
Administration and Conferences and, Information Technology Departments.

A statement signed by the President of ECOWAS, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, said the appointment was for a term of four years effective from 30 July 2022 when Darma would be sworn in by the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Nana Akufo-Addo, in
Accra, Ghana.

“I am extremely grateful to Allah for His favours, and I want you all to join me in thanking Him because I emerged successful out of 307 candidates who applied for the position. It is indeed a rare privilege for me and I use this medium to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for your wonderful prayers and well wishes to me and my family,” Darma said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has since congratulated Darma on his appointment, saying the former director has made the University
proud, and must continue to be its good ambassador.
