Professor Yusuf Dankofa: An age eclipses

I am extremely distraught to receive news of the passing of former Dean of Law Faculty, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Yusuf Dankofa

As a good governance and democratic ethics advocate, I have had the privilege to share thoughts with Prof both offline and physically, the last being the opportunity to sit with him alongside my brother, Barr. Monday Adjeh after the ease of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 in Abuja.

Blessed with a rare sense of humour and decency, Prof would pass the Nigerian challenges that would make you want to cry and laugh simultaneously.

His demise no doubt has robbed the legal and academic communities of a giant and, muted the voice of one of Nigeria’s elite critics even as the world and our nation have fallen less of a passionate compatriot whose expectation was seeing a working and functional nation.

Transitioning at a time when the nation desires genuinely concerned voices to deepen patriotic engagement for national rebirth and economic revival makes it most painful.

In all, we’re consoled that you’re now at home with your precious Hajia whom you loved and shared the best moments. I’m sure that we lost a significant part of our Prof that moment Hajia left ahead of you.

Fare thee well, Professor.

Your children, your students, the civil society and many that you mentored from close range and from afar will dearly miss you.

May the Almighty accept your return and grant your soul eternal rest.

Adieu, Professor Yusuf Dankofa
