Senator Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South) has faulted Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for blaming President Bola Tinubu for the current economic hardship in the country that led to end of bad governance protest.
The governor, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum had, during In the flag off of campaign for local government of PDP candidates, slammed Tinubu for the hyperinflation rocking the economy,
He had said that Tinubu’s economic policies caused more pain, hunger and anger to the citizens, hence the reason for the #EndBadGovernance protests.
He said that the President’s broadcast to the Nation failed to address the grievances of the protesting youths, who took to the streets to protest hunger and hardship.
“I listened with all attention to the speech of Mr. President and I said, with humility and courage, that what he said was empty! It did not agree with the situation. It did not address the problem and challenges.
“The problems are not youths only, it’s for us as leaders –from the President to subnational levels and to the local government and we can see the manifestations with different colorations –from the North to the South.
“In the North, there is a very big wake up call for us to bring good governance, to respect people. There is hunger and anger. We have to really address our problem of development. Unemployment is everywhere, our educational system is not working.
“The new policies of the federal government are not working. They have to understand that. It is their problem. It is their programmes that have caused us these problems, so they have to change.”
“I have heard, and with regrettable attention, some of the ministers of the federal government that are saying that we have been given 70 trucks, N570bn, how much did the federal government get? Even the money their policies devalue the Naira and the Naira they give will not anything”
“Why should they bring policies that are causing pain? On your behalf, I’m telling Mr. President, Tinubu, to change his policy because it’s not working. Anything he does affects us in every corner, in every political party, as our leader.
“If he continues like this, in 2027, he will campaign for the PDP because everywhere will be PDP and we are going to win because it will be a self-inflicted injury. We know it’s time for governance, we as opposition are keeping quiet because we don’t want to over hit the polity because the federal government is doing so many things to cause disaffection and we want to say with humility, this must stop,” he said.
He warned that the ‘reaction of hungry people is better imagined therefore Tinubu most change his policies that are compounding issues in the country.
However, Senator Buba responded to Governor Bala’s remarks at the flag off campaign of APC candidates for local government election where the party flags were handed over to the 20 standard bearers for the August 17th local government election in the state.
Senator Shehu Buba warned Governor Bala that Tinubu is not his mate in politics. He reminded the governor that they joined politics same day through their leader former Bauchi State Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda.
Senator Buba accused Governor Bala of being responsible for poverty, hunger and anger in the state for short changing the people of the state for not releasing the 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertilizer, 20 trucks of rices donated to the people of the state by the Federal Government. N144bn, in 2023 and N147bn from January to date from the federation account and he collected N300bn loan and award major contract to himself and built the best house for himself with over 70 rooms which led to abject poverty in the state because, people are being impoverished by PDP policy in Bauchi.
Both parties claimed they will win the forthcoming local Government election.
