The House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds has inspected various erosion and land degradation sites in Bauchi metropolis as part of efforts to attract federal intervention to the state.
Some of the areas visited by the committee led by its Hon. Aminu Hassan Jaji include Tambari Housing Estate, Federal Low-Cost, and Gwallagan Mayaka in the state capital.
During the inspection, Hon. Hassan Jaji said the visit was aimed at assessing the extent of damage caused by erosion and other environmental challenges.
He assured the affected communities that the committee would make positive recommendations towards provide lasting solutions to address their plight.
As part of their engagement, the committee paid a courtesy visit to Governor Bala Mohammed at the Government House to intimate him about the mission.
In his address, Governor Mohammed expressed appreciation for the committee’s efforts, noting that the impact of erosion extends beyond the state capital with many parts of Bauchi State severely affected.
He emphasized the urgency of federal intervention and highlighted his administration’s ongoing response through road construction in projects under the Urban and Rural Renewal Initiative.
The Governor assured that any intervention funds provided would be judiciously utilized to tackle the challenges.
He expressed optimism that the committee’s recommendations would lead to meaningful support from the federal government.
