Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has continued to receive dignitaries at the Niger State liaison office, in Abuja, from Government and Non-governmental Institutions on a sympathy visit over the Dikko Junction tanker explosion.
Among those that visited were the leadership and Members of the House of Representatives, led by the Speaker of the House, Alh. Tajudeen Abbas.
The Speaker described the incident as very sad, especially as the country is yet to recover from similar incidents in Jigawa and other places that occurred not too long ago.
While commiserating with the Government and people of Niger State, Alh. Abbas said the repeated incidences of tanker explosion have made it necessary for the National Assembly to look inward and come up with a legislation that will make Nigeria’s roads safer.
He said available opportunities in the 2025 budget will also be maximised, to improve on the finances of the relevant agencies on safety of roads.
The Speaker then announced the donation of N100 million to the victims of the tanker explosion, especially those receiving treatment in different hospitals.
Prayers were offered for the repose of the departed souls, the injured and comfort to the victims families.
Others who also registered their condolences to the Niger State government over the Dikko junction tanker explosion were the Minister for Information and National Orientation Agency, his Art, Culture, and Tourism Counterpart, Hannatu Musawa and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed gratitude for the visit and compassion shown to the government and people of Niger State.
He said the visit and the cash donation is timely and promised that it will be judiciously utilised.
