Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that the Alakija Bridge is safe and structurally sound following an attempt by vandals to damage part of the structure.
The Governor made the assurance on Saturday in a statement posted on his Facebook page after inspecting the bridge.
“Let me reassure Lagosians that the bridge is safe, structurally sound and ready for use. There is no cause for alarm,” Sanwo-Olu said.
SThe Governor commended security agencies for their swift response, citing the Police, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Task Force, KAI, and the Neighbourhood Safety Corps for securing the area.
“Some of those involved are already in custody, and we are going after the rest,” he stated.
He warned that anyone caught destroying public infrastructure in the state would face the full weight of the law.
“Let me be clear, anyone who attempts to destroy public infrastructure in Lagos will face the full force of the law,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor, noting that the ongoing clean-up exercise was already yielding visible results.
“The ongoing clean-up is already making a visible difference, and the work will continue,” he said.
He urged residents to take ownership of public assets and support government efforts to keep the state safe.
“We all have a role to play in keeping Lagos safe and protecting what belongs to all of us,” he added.
