The Dutse Emirate Council has announced the death of its senior title holder Sardaunan Dutse and former Nigerian Minister of Commerce, Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf at the age of 76.
Yusuf died in the early hours of Friday in Kano and his funeral prayer is slated to hold at the palace of the Emir of Kano after Friday congregational prayer.
The late Yusuf, who was in the Senate from 1999 to 2007, served as Minister of Interior and later Minister of Commerce during the Shagari administration from 1981 to 1982.
Born in 1947 in Gwaram, Jigawa State, the late Yusuf was widely travelled and used to conduct Tafsir in his residence during Ramadan.
One of his sons, 27-year-old Bashir Bello Maitama, died in March this year in Egypt and was buried there.
Emir of Dutse Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Sanusi prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased and admit him into paradise.
