Sen Barau leads senators on condolence visit to VP Shettima over stepmother’s death

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, on Friday led the delegation of the Senate to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to condole the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, over the demise of his stepmother.

The stepmother of the Vice President, Hajja Hauwa Abba Kormi had died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 69.

The President of the 9th Senate Senator Ahmad Lawan was together with the Deputy President of the Senate during the visit, Jibrin’s spokesman Ismail Mudashir said in a statement on Friday.

Speaking during the visit, Senator Barau condoled the Vice President, urging him and other members of the family to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived a righteous life dedicated to the service of Allah and humanity.

“We are here personally, myself as the Deputy President of the Senate and on behalf of the entire Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to pay our condolences to His Excellency, the Vice President.

“The President of the Senate, Senator Godsdwill Obot Akpabio would have been here, but for the fact that he has traveled to Cote d’Ivoire for the match of the Super Eagles that is taking place today (Friday) to support the country.

“As such we are here on behalf of the entire Senators to condole and commiserate with the Vice President and indeed the people of the North East, and the entire people of the country for the loss of our mother.

“We are here to also pray to Almighty Allah to give the Vice President and the entire people of the North East and the country at large, the fortitude to bear the loss of our mother. May her gentle soul rest in Jannatul Firdaus. May Almighty Allah forgive her,” he said.

The Vice President thanked the delegation for the visit.
