Suspected IPOB gunmen kill 2 policemen, injure 3 in Enugu

Gunmen, suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), have killed two policemen at Nachi community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Three other policemen sustained gunshot injuries in the attack that took place at a police checkpoint in the area around 9am on Wednesday.

The attack took the policemen unawares as the gunmen shot continuously until they left the scene, The Nation reported.

Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, said a full scale investigation into the incident had been launched with a view to tracking down the assailants.

He said: “Full-scale investigation that will lead to fishing out of the assailants has commenced. Further development will be communicated, please.”
