In South Korea, we met with a Nigerian postdoctoral researcher from Kano, Dr Abdulkadir, whose lab is doing fascinating work on malaria control.
His machine can capture mosquitoes within a range of one kilometer. It first lures them in, then captures them.
The machine also identifies the mosquitoes within seconds and the types of illnesses they cause.
With this, he intends to mitigate asymptomatic malaria that silently damages the body, including the brain.
His team has already deployed the solution in Zambia and will soon start a collaboration with Kenya.
However, he is also planning to collaborate with the governments of his own country, Nigeria, through universities, research institutions, and ministries of health.
Their collaboration with the Zambians has already earned the Zambians hundreds of thousands of dollars in research grants.
Interestingly, he brought my book, “Tell, Don’t Yell,” out of his bag and asked me to sign it. “I don’t want to share it nwith anyone,” he said.
He’s probably the first reader to take my book to South Korea.
Nigerians are doing amazing work outside Nigeria.
