Thuggery: Kano police arrest 51 suspects, recover weapons, illicit drugs

The Kano State Police Command conducted a clearance operation in criminal hideouts in some parts of Kano Metropolis, including Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas, specifically Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters, between Friday, 13th and Sunday, 15th June 2025.

The three-day operation led to the arrest of fifty-one (51) suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The Command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, strongly warns against brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including “Gangi,” as well as displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X(Twitter), Instagram, etc. which encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes.

The Command urges parents and guardians to monitor their children/wards’ activities and report any suspicious behaviour as anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

Parents who conspire with their children/wards to keep such dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such for them will be investigated as well.
