Traders in Kaduna have denied celebrating the involvement of the Managing Director of Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company Malam Hafiz Bayero and his driver Ibrahim Shekarau in road accident.
There were rumours that traders celebrated the accident because they were not happy with the coronavirus-induced lockdown which left markets across the state closed for months. Many traders battled for survival throughout the duration of the market closure.
But speaking to Dateline Nigeria in Kaduna, Malam Bala Tinau, who sells brocades at the Abubakar Gumi Central Market, said, “To my knowledge, no body celebrated the news of that accident. And even if somebody did, it must have been an isolated case.
“In any case, it will be unwise to celebrate anybody’s misfortune because no one knows what will befall him tomorrow.”
Tinau blamed the rumour on “those who may want to get at the Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai administration.”
According to a recent post by Bello El-Rufai, Bayero is recuperating while his driver has since been discharged from hospital. However, no information has been officially released by the atate government on the accident.
