Transition in Kaduna: One good thing leading to another

Although both Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufa’i and Senator Uba Sani as the out-going governor and the governor-elect of Kaduna State, respectively, are two sides of a coin, the transition of power from the former to the latter on which, as a tradition, a committee—Transition Committee [TC]– has been raised is an exceptionally interesting process. The smoothness of the exercise has already been fully guaranteed by the sameness of the political backgrounds and governance experiences of the two of them, which have translated into a shared vision for the state.

The committee holds lofty promises for the Kaduna people as it points to the absolute likelihood of the formation of a government that will possess an abundant capacity for service delivery. Everything about the TC–size, composition, mandate, etc– indicates a strong desire of its founders for both a neat completion of one phase of governance and a hitch-free commencement of another.

The TC, which has the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, as Chairman and over one hundred notable personalities of diverse backgrounds as members, is well-equipped for the assignment. On the committee are enough prominent politicians, renowned intellectuals, religious clerics, key technocrats and many other individuals of immense substance, all of whom have shown the readiness to devote the whole of their time and energy to the effective management of the transition process.

Certainly, the inclusion of Professor Mohammed Sani Bello [Mainan Zazzau] who also served as the Director General of the Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress [APC] in Kaduna State, Chief of Staff to the Governor–Honourable Mohammed Bashir Sa’idu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication—Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, Secretary of the party in the state–Honourable Yahaya Baba Pate, Professors Ben Gugong, Maryam Abdu, Aminu Ladan Sharehu, Nuhu Tahir and Abdullahi Musa Soba as well as Pastors Yusuf Biniyat and David Adeniran is quite proper and most encouraging. Some of the other members like Dr Abdulkadir Mayere, Francesca Musa, Rabi Salisu, Cecilia Musa, Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar, Dr Shehu Makarfi, Hafiz Bayero, Dr Mohammed Tukur Adam, Ja’afar Sani, Ishaya Ayuba Ranga and Honourable Datti Babawo are equally committed members of the APC whose capacity for clear value addition to the performance of the TC is unquantifiable.

As the work of the committee impressively progresses, the possibility of a kind of hand-over/take-over of power that will serve as a foundation upon which the in-coming Kaduna State Government under Senator Uba Sani can conveniently implement its agenda becomes greater.

The transition process is, therefore, one good thing that is surely leading to another.
