Today, as we lay her to rest, the heavens themselves must be rejoicing at the return of a faithful, formidable daughter. The world, however, feels a little dimmer, a little quieter, with the passing of Dr. Grace Adayilo, our beloved Mama Africa. For those wondering who this fantastic woman was, she was the immediate past Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
To speak of her life is like trying to contain an ocean in a cup. She was a woman who wore countless hats not as mere roles, but as something she effortlessly did in her capacity to love, serve, and empower. She was family, a pillar of unwavering support. She was church, a beacon of faith and compassion. She was work, a testament to diligence and excellence. She was community, the very glue that held so many together, the Gbagi nation and Nigeria at large truly lost a gem. In a society often dominated by male voices, she carved out a space not just for herself, but for all primarily of her gender who followed, proving that true strength is forged in grace, beauty and kindness.
To be in her presence was a gift. One always walked away feeling seen, comforted, and uplifted, knowing without a doubt that they had been touched by greatness, at least I felt that way.
We are now left to wonder at the chapters yet unwritten and voided by her passing, to imagine what more could have been had she stayed longer. But our hearts must shift from wondering to worshipping and thanking God for the incredible gift He gave to the world in the person of Dr. Grace Adayilo. For the years she walked among us, for the lives she transformed, for the love she so freely gave, we are eternally grateful.
Her journey was a masterclass in purpose, for which you were a student without knowing it. In the timeless words of the ancients, which she embodied so completely: Dr. Grace Adayilo came, she saw, and she conquered. She conquered hearts with her love, challenges with her resilience, and a world in need with her boundless compassion and generosity.
Now, we must turn our prayers to her beloved children, Godwin Jabilo and his siblings who gracefully shared their loving mother with the world without complaint. We pray that the God of all comfort envelops them in His peace. May He grant them divine strength, abundant blessings, and the profound grace to navigate this world, carrying forward her magnificent legacy. May they walk every day in the certainty that their mother is smiling down on them and proud of the people they are.
Adeu, Ma. Rest in perfect peace, our Mama Africa. Your work here is done, and it was done magnificently. Thank you for the blessing of your presence, just knowing and meeting you the few times I did have been a blessing. You were, and will always be, greater than life.
