With heavy hearts and reverence, we mourn the untimely passing of a remarkable patriot, committed officer, and an exemplary alumnus — Chief Route Commander (CRC) Patrick Gaza. Born in 1978, Patrick was a proud graduate of the Political Science Department, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Class of 2002. His life was a testimony of purpose, resilience, and service.
Patrick Gaza chose the noble path of nation-building through public service and joined the Federal Road Safety Corps, where he rose through the ranks to become the Provost of the Bauchi State Sector Command. His time with the Corps was distinguished by discipline, fairness, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to safety and order on Nigerian roads. In an age where public servants are often questioned, CRC Gaza stood out for his integrity and leadership.
He was not only a fine officer but a mentor to many within the Corps, admired for his humility and sense of justice. In Bauchi, his contributions extended beyond routine patrols and enforcement. He built bridges between communities and the Corps, initiated safety awareness programs, and ensured that the uniform he wore inspired confidence, not fear. He viewed his work as a calling and often said, “Service is the rent we pay for the breath we take.”
Patrick’s academic foundation in Political Science laid the groundwork for his deep understanding of society and governance, which he infused into his approach to duty. He remained connected to his alma mater, mentoring younger graduates and encouraging them to embrace patriotism and discipline. His legacy among peers is one of loyalty, purpose, and rare character.
Beyond his professional achievements, Patrick Gaza was a loving family man, a community pillar, and a man of peace. He treated all with respect and was never too busy to lend a helping hand or share words of encouragement.
Today, we bid farewell not just to a friend or officer, but to a symbol of what Nigeria’s youth can become — diligent, dedicated, and determined to leave a mark. CRC Patrick Gaza may have fallen, but his legacy of discipline, service, and honor shall live on.
